Acute Coronary Syndrome: Lifestyle Changes and Self-Help

If you smoke, have high cholesterol, blood pressure, or diabetes, are obese, or have a family history of heart ailments, you should change your lifestyle. Specific changes in your lifestyle can reduce your risk of acute coronary syndrome significantly. Changes include:

1. Quit smoking. Educate yourself on the dangers of smoking and its role in causing acute coronary syndrome. Seek guidance and support of medical personnel not only to overcome your habit but also to get over the urge to smoke. Bupropion increases the possibility of successful smoking cessation.

2. Eat a healthy diet with low-fat and low-sodium levels. Include lots of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to increase the fiber content.

3. Follow specific exercise routine diligently. If you are unable to exercise daily, do at least five days in a week. Exercise clears blockages in arteries and keeps your heart healthy.

4. Schedule regular appointments with your doctor to check your blood pressure, cholesterol, and other regular check-ups. Always keep aspirin ready for any emergencies.

5. Remain aware of symptoms of acute coronary syndrome and heart attack. If you are unable to recognize possible symptoms, you could lose crucial hours in seeking medical treatment.

6. Take life as it comes without developing stress on every other happening in your life. Do not be a work alcoholic. Adopt simple stress busters to overcome anxiety and restlessness.
