Acute Coronary Syndrome: Signs and Symptoms
The most important sign of ACS is chest pain. This is due to decreased flow of blood to heart. This is experienced as constriction of chest muscles and you feel as if your chest is being compressed or immense pressure is being applied on your chest.
Signs and symptoms of acute coronary syndrome are same as that of a heart attack. Rather, if ACS symptoms are not treated immediately, they lead to a heart attack. Common signs and symptoms of ACS include:
– Severe chest pain similar to tightening or compressing of chest, lingering for several minutes
– Pain travelling from upper left arm or upper jaw
– Odd feeling of immense pressure on back, upper belly, neck, or sometimes in both arms
– Vomiting
– Nausea
– Excessive and profuse sweating (diaphoresis)
– Breathlessness (dyspnea)
– Dizziness
– Extreme exhaustion
– Irregular or very fast heart beat
– Pain in the abdomen
– Fainting
– Anxiousness or apprehensiveness
– Clammy skin
Whenever you feel any of these symptoms, seek medical help immediately. Rather, call for medical help rather than driving to a hospital. These symptoms eventually translate into a heart attack and driving to a hospital could prove dangerous, or even fatal. If you suffer from any of these symptoms intermittently, discuss with your doctor and seek appropriate medical treatment.
