<p>Achilles tenosynovitis is an inflammatory condition of Achilles tendon sheath. It is degenerative in nature. Achilles tendon sheath surrounds the tendon and is covered with a fluid called synovium. Achilles tenosynovitis does not occur in the tendon. It can occur with Achilles tendinosis while sometimes it leads to Achilles tendinosis. Achilles tenosynovitis is same as paratenonitis as outer covering of Achilles tendon is called paratenon.</p>
<p><strong>Diagnosis of Achilles Tenosynovitis</strong></p>
<p>Achilles tenosynovitis is seen mostly among athletes and runners. It occurs due to continuous and repetitive strain in the tendon region. This condition causes inflammation. This leads to development of scar tissue within tendon sheath where tendon attaches to paratenon. This tissue restricts smooth tendon movement and you feel pain and swelling in tendon region. It also affects range of motion.</p>
<p>Tendon is any tissue that attaches muscle to bone. Some tendons in human body have a covering sheath called synovium. This secretes little oily fluid that spreads across tendon and the sheath. Fluid helps and sustains free and smooth movement of tendon when it pulls on the attached bone. Achilles tenosynovitis is inflammation of this fluid-filled sheath. Persistent use of tendon without proper medical treatment leads to scarring of tissue and consequent restriction of movement.</p>
<p>Rest provides immense relief from pain and swelling associated with Achilles tenosynovitis. Physiotherapy, steroid injections, and painkillers also reduce pain due to Achilles tenosynovitis.</p>
