Indian Government Ups Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Toria to Rs. 2,425 Per 100 Kgs

The Government of India has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of toria of Fair Average Quality (FAQ) from Rs. 1,780 per quintal (100 Kilograms) to Rs. 2,425 per quintal for the crop year 2011-2012 and marketing season 2012-2013.

This is an increase of Rs. 645 a quintal or 36.24 percent over last year’s Minimum Support Price for toria.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) took this decision to hike the MSP of toria in its meeting held on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 in New Delhi.

Every year, the Government of India determines the Minimum Support Price of toria based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Cost and Prices (CACP).

The Minimum Support Price of toria has been fixed on the basis of the normal market price differentials between toria and rapeseed/mustard.

The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED) will act as the Central Nodal Agency (CNA) to undertake price support operation of toria to be sold in 2012-2013.

The Department of Agriculture and Cooperation (DAC), being the nodal agency for implementing the Price Support Schemes (PSS), will take required steps like publicity of the decision regarding MSP of toria and issue of directions to NAFED for undertaking price support operations.
