Making Your Cruising Enjoyable

Cruising on your yacht is no doubt an exhilarating experience. Yet, you should remain prepared while cruising to make it memorable.

Essential Tips for Making Your Cruising Enjoyable

1. If sailing on your own or rented yacht, educate yourself on all safety aspects. Engines and generators should be fully serviced and well maintained. You should remain aware of simple repairing jobs to set right small faults or problems that could arise during a cruise.

2. If you are to navigate your yacht, enroll for a course well in advance. You should be proficient in modern GPS navigation and chart plotting systems, inter-vessel communication, understand tides, currents and remain aware of basic sailing rules, radar tuning and use, and similar navigational basics.

3. Abandoning a ship in case of dire emergency is another important and essential safety aspect. Even short cruise trips can put you across such emergencies.

4. The most common emergency onboard a yacht is to rescue anyone falling overboard. You should understand how to pull in a person fallen overboard and maneuver the boat tactfully. Using life sling is the best recourse.

5. Always, have a fully equipped first aid kit on board your yacht. Become a certified first aider before setting out on your yacht. It is not sufficient if you purchase a first aid kit from the local drugstore. You can stock all essential medicines, lotions, and medical instruments that may be necessary in case of an emergency.

6. Do not carry suitcases on-board. Instead, use simple duffel bags to carry your luggage. Hard-lined suitcases are difficult to handle on board a boat.

7. Carry a digital camera with extra batteries and memory card to take pictures of beautiful views and sceneries along your cruise.

8. Safeguard all travel documents. Keep a photocopy of all documents in a separate place in case of any misplacement or theft of originals.
