If you have symptoms of Agnogenic Myeloid Metaplasia, doctor would initially conduct a thorough physical examination to check vital signs like blood pressure and pulse. Doctor also checks your spleen, abdomen, and lymph nodes. Normally spleen enlarges to a massive size when you develop Agnogenic Myeloid Metaplasia.</p>
<p><strong>Diagnostic Tests and Procedures</strong></p>
<p><strong>Complete Blood Count Test with Blood Smear:</strong> This test measures levels of different types of blood cells. Normally in Agnogenic Myeloid Metaplasia, red blood cells are at an alarmingly low level while white blood cells are at higher than normal levels. Level of platelets could be higher or lower than normal. Blood smear shows teardrop-shaped red blood cells.</p>
<p><strong>Bone Marrow Biopsy:</strong> A needle is inserted into hipbone to draw a sample of hardened bone marrow and liquid portion of bone marrow. Microscopic study of the sample determines types and numbers of cells found. Biopsy can detect problems of scar tissue within bone marrow and any problems in blood cell development. This test can rule out issues of other types of bone marrow disorders.</p>
<p><strong>Imaging Tests:</strong> A Magnetic Resonance Imaging or MRI test can detect changes in bone structure and component. Ultrasound can detect enlargements of spleen or liver.</p>
<p><strong>Genetic Testing:</strong> This test detects mutations in JAK2 and MPL genes.</p>
