Acute Kidney Failure: Clinical Trials and Research Studies

Around twenty-five to thirty percent of patients admitted to intensive care unit of hospitals are affected by acute kidney failure. It is possible for doctors to treat your kidney problems within a short period if you are otherwise healthy. If detected early, kidney problems can be treated and you can lead normal lives. Dietary changes are extremely important to treat acute kidney failure. Fluid and salt restriction is mandatory to treat oliguric renal failure, as kidneys are unable to excrete fluids or toxins.

However, those with chronic kidney diseases would require regular dialysis or a kidney transplant. Yet, these treatment options are not very successful in aged people. Elderly normally suffer from a multitude of medical problems and kidney ailments add to their woes. Such people normally succumb to such ailments.

Recent studies in 2013 indicate triple therapy treatment using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs with two antihypertensive medications like a combination of diuretic with ARB or an angiotensin-receptor blocker or an angiotensin-converting enzyme or ACE inhibitor precipitates occurrence of acute kidney failure. The incidence is high within the first thirty days of treatment.

Most such patients never regain normal renal functions completely. Instead, they progress into end-stage renal failure. This necessitates either a kidney transplantation or lifelong dialysis. Some patients regain normal kidney functions but do not live long.
