<p>Common signs and symptoms of actinic keratosis include:</p>
<p>&#8211; Flat or little raised patch on top layer of skin<br />
&#8211; Dry, rough, and scaly patch of skin<br />
&#8211; Hardening of skin bump into a wart<br />
&#8211; Changing of color in skin patch from pink to red to brown<br />
&#8211; Burning or itching sensation in affected area<br />
&#8211; Bleeding from affected skin patches<br />
&#8211; Persistent pain in skin lesions<br />
&#8211; Gradual spreading of skin patch<br />
&#8211; Slowly becoming crusty and scaly<br />
&#8211; Crust with a white or yellow scale on top that develops into a rough and hard surface<br />
&#8211; Lesions are easily felt than seen<br />
&#8211; Any unusual or suspicious growth of skin<br />

Scratching or picking at such scars can prompt reoccurrence of actinic keratosis. Symptoms are easily visible across exposed parts of your skin. Initially you only feel most symptoms of actinic keratosis and later affected skin patches are visible.</p>
<p>Early detection and treatment can stop progression of actinic keratosis into skin cancer. Although not all actinic keratoses develop into skin cancer, sometimes you are at a higher risk of developing different types of cancer due to presence of actinic keratosis.</p>
