<p>Neuroma symptoms develop gradually and present themselves at a much later stage only. In most cases, acoustic neuroma is detected when you are screened for other medical conditions.</p>
<p><strong>Acoustic Neuroma: Diagnostic Tests and Procedures</strong></p>
<p>Doctor discusses about your symptoms like unsteadiness and problematic facial muscle functioning. Thereafter doctor conducts a physical examination of your ear. Tests include:</p>
<p><strong>BAER or Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response:</strong> Electrodes are fixed on your scalp and earlobes. You hear clicking noises through earphones. Electrodes record your brain&#8217;s responses to these noises on a graph. This test detects problems with your hearing and neurological functions.</p>
<p><strong>Audiometry or Hearing Test:</strong> An audiologist or hearing specialist conducts this test. Audiologist presents sounds of various tones and across different ranges directed to one ear at a time. You wear earphones and hear these sounds. Each tone is repeated at faint levels to detect and diagnose your hearing abilities. You indicate to your audiologist when you are able to hear the sound clearly. Sometimes audiologist also presents different words to diagnose your hearing ability.</p>
<p><strong>Electronystagmography (ENG):</strong> This test measures your involuntary eye movements to detect any loss of rhythm. It also diagnoses your balance levels.</p>
<p><strong>Scans:</strong> Computerized tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans provide images of acoustic neuroma.</p>
