The pomegranate is a tasty and reddish attractive fruit that attracts just anyone towards it. It has a refreshing taste and nutritive qualities. Pomegranate is known since ancient times and is held high in esteem both as food and as medicine.

History tells us that pomegranate came mainly native to Iran and Afghanistan. In the early times, it was cultivated in Egypt and the hanging gardens of Babylon.

Iran has a long history of cultivating pomegranate since a longtime. The Iranian cities of Saveh, Kashan and Yazd are foremost to grow the quality forms of pomegranate in the world. They are famous to extract the juice of Pomegranate by stamping over the fruit stored in large containers wearing special shoes.

Pomegranate gradually spread over the areas of the Mediterranean region in several thousand years. It moved further in the east to the countries of India, China, and Japan. It is believed that the sea traders may have brought it here.

Many wild pomegranate groves can be seen in Georgia, particularly at the prehistoric desolated settlements. In the Moorish period, the old city of Granada in Spain is named after Pomegranate only.

In Spain, the missionaries are thought to bring pomegranate here. They probably introduced the pomegranate in the 1700-1800s in the Caribbean and Latin America.

In 1769, pomegranate came to California through Spanish explorers. California has since been the main center to cultivate pomegranate in North America. The pomegranates are some of the first plants that were brought from Mexico by the mendicants.
