The Climate for Growing Pomegranate Plants

New York (USA), February 15, 2018

Pomegranate species is mainly mild temperate, subtropical and adapted naturally to the regions that are cool in winters and hot in summers. In the tropical areas, some specific types can be grown in the home dooryards. You can find some examples in the islands of Bahamas and West Indies.

In the cool winters of South Florida, the fruit development is improved. In the United States, pomegranate can be grown outdoors in far north regions of Washington County, Utah and Washington, D.C. However, it may not be much fruitful in these locations.

The pomegranate plant needs a semi arid climate and is highly drought tolerant. It can be damaged badly in the temperatures below than 12º F or -11.11º C.

They tend not to have good fruits in the cool and coastal areas. The pomegranates are grown hardy in down to 12 degrees F. If you want to bring them indoor during the cold weather, it is better to grow them in the container or in the greenhouse.
