Indian Government – Monthly and Annual Industrial Growth Data

Central Statistics Office of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation released the quick estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) for November 2014 on January 12, 2015. India’s Index of Industrial Production was 3.80% in November 2014.

Government of India – India’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) Grew at 3.80 Percent in November 2014

India’s Index of Industrial Production was 3.80 percent higher in the month of November 2014 on a year-on-year basis, as compared to minus 4.20 percent growth in October 2014 and minus 1.32 percent growth in November 2013.

The Central Statistics Office of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) released the quick estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) for the month of November 2014 on Monday, January 12, 2015.

The Central Statistics Office has also revised upwards the annual industrial growth in India for September 2014 to 2.80 percent from the earlier estimate (provisional) of 2.60 percent year-on-year increase.

The cumulative growth for the period April 2014 to November 2014 stands at 2.20% over the corresponding period of the previous year.

India’s industrial production grew only by minus 0.10 percent in the April 2013-March 2014 period, as against 1.00 percent in April 2012-March 2013 and 2.80 percent in April 2011-March 2012 period.

Index of Industrial Production is one of the prime indicators of the economic development in an economy detailing out the growth and trend of various sectors.

Index of Industrial Production Series and Data Base Year

The new Index of Industrial Production series with a 2004-05 base was introduced in April 2011.

Index of Industrial Production is an abstract number. The scale of IIP represents the status of production in the industrial sector for a given period, as compared to a reference period. The Index of Industrial Production is computed using Laspeyre’s formula in which the weighted arithmetic mean of quantity relatives with weights being allotted to different items in ratio to value added by manufacture in the index base year.

Industrial growth data derived from the newly released Index of Industrial Production series illustrates that India, Asia’s third-largest economy, as having undergone a full-blown ‘recession’ instead of a simple ‘slowdown’ in the aftereffects of the global financial crisis from December 2008 to June 2009. During this seven-month period, the year-on-year growth rates fell to as low as minus 7.23 per cent in February 2009 and remained in the negative territory all through.
