How to Write a Successful Press Release

New York (USA), April 13, 2012

A press release is important and essential information about your company or organization. Press release should be written in a journalistic style and follow a specific format. It should be submitted to newspapers, websites, television, radio, and magazines preferably with links to your web site. Newspapers and media pick it up for publication, if release is interesting and informative.

Ten Tips for Writing a Successful Press Release

1. Press release should be in third person. It is neither a sales copy nor an advertisement for your products or services. Hence, it should contain only essential information and text.

2. Create a short headline for your press release. Headline should be compelling and commanding and hit straight on the topic. Preferably, write headline in italics or use capitals of first letters of each word in the headline.

3. First paragraph is the gist of your press release. It should provide answers for all major questions like who, why, what, when, and where. The most important facts about your information should be in the headline and first paragraph.

4. Press release provides all answers about your business. Never put any question words or ask anything through your press release.

5. Exclude all adjectives and flowery expressions in your press release. Press release states facts and gives information. It does not market your product.

6. Just like any other write-up, press release should be free of all grammatical and spelling errors. Use spell-check and thereafter also ask experts to go through it before final submission.

7. Press release should ideally be within 200 to 500 words. Refrain from using HTML within body text. All such details are on a separate form.

8. Use relevant keywords and phrases. This helps News release agencies optimize your press release on their sites and for submission to search engines.

9. Press release can include a short paragraph at the end highlighting company objectives. Press release should have a significant marking (###) to denote end of text.

10. Include all contact information like telephone number, fax, mailing address, and website. Do not include e-mail address in the body of press release.
